CFC HOME STUDY QUESTIONS & MESSAGE SUPPLEMENT
SUNDAY 5/26/24 “Out Into the Deep” Luke 5:1-11
Thinking about it:
Has anyone ever asked you to do something that, at the time, seemed pointless to you, but you went ahead and did it?
- Why did you do it?
- Were you able to realize later why they asked and that it wasn’t pointless at all?
- Who in your life are you more likely to follow thru with such seemingly pointless requests?
- Why?
- Who would you be less likely to follow through with them?
- Why?
Read: Luke 5:1-11
- Do you think Simon (eventually Peter) viewed Jesus’ request as pointless?
- Why do you think that?
- Why do you think Simon followed through?
(remember, Simon was not even called to be a disciple yet.)
- Was Simon glad that he followed through?
All of us disciples of Jesus are called to be “fishers of men.” In your efforts to reach others:
- In what ways can you relate to Simon’s frustration with being out all night and catching nothing?
Jesus said in John 4:35, “I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.”
He said in Luke 5:4 “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”
The world is in pain… people are desperate for what the Lord alone can provide!
PRAY: Thank God that He knows where the “fish” are… He is woo-ing the world through what He has created, even as it spirals into its own degeneracy! The difference between the godly and the godless is more and more stark… making the “middle ground” harder to find… people are choosing which side they will dwell in RIGHT NOW! “PUT OUT INTO DEEP WATER AND LET DOWN THE NETS FOR A CATCH.”
